So, interesting developments. That Kickstarter project I posted up last Friday is already fully funded. By just two people. I can hardly believe that it happened. I am seriously humbled by their generosity.

But I guess I really will be getting things up onto iTunes in the new year. But the fund drive isn't over! If you still want to back me, you can, and you'll get to see all sorts of fun updates over the next couple months.

You see, the way Kickstarter works, even if you reach your goals early, you don't see any of the funds until the given date has passed. In my case, I picked 90 days out, January 14th, which means that until this drive is still going on. I promise to fulfill any rewards right up until the end of the drive. And hey, if I get enough backing, maybe I'll even make a run of limited-edition t-shirts to give away to everybody. One of the biggest things, though, is that I'll be previewing parts of my next album just to backers of the project. Even though the goal of the Kickstarter thing wasn't to record the next album, I think it's a fair trade for those that are interested. I've already got the title and tentative cover art for the next release up there, so my backers already know something that the rest of you don't.

From the start I had intended this drive to be as much about connecting with fans and potential fans as it was about getting together the scratch to get music on iTunes. So you can back me if you want to, but just as much it would help me if you told your friends.

I've gone and set up a project on Kickstarter to get my music up and available on commercial download sites:

More detail there, but the gist is that I want to raise $200 to get my stuff up there, for three albums (two released, one in the works in the background here). Tell your friends!

been looking into Kickstarter as a means of raising money to get my music up onto iTunes and the like. Haven't officially launched the project yet, but I'm getting it set up. Mind you, I haven't managed to make any money off of my existing albums, so I'm not sure I'd be able to make anything off of the kickstarter page. But the way it works, if not enough people donate, then nobody has to pay. that's kinda nice.

i've also been kicking around things in the background for a new album already. i'm planning on the production of this one being a whole lot simpler than the previous ones were. just a different aesthetic i want to go for this time. i already have a title and some tentative cover art, and the skeletons of a few tracks for it. who knows, maybe if i get the kickstarter thing off the ground i'll get to releasing this album, too.

which all reminds me, i want to do another christmas song this year, if I have time. if i'm going to do it, i'm going to have to get started on it pretty soon.

looks like i'm headed out to california in a couple weeks. san francisco area once again for a conference, should be a good time. hopefully will get to see a few relocated friends and relations when i'm out there. schedule's going to be pretty busy but i should have enough time to make the rounds. or make it out for a round, depending.

we've started up the new fiscal year here at work and the great project machines are slowly moving forward. it's going to be an exciting year. i don't yet know whether that excitement will take the form of panic or joy, or both, but there's a lot to get done.

school continues along as always. got our first project presentation this week, which should be interesting. i'm curious to see what other folks have been working on. i hope my demos behave nicely for people.

luc is still growing like crazy. he's up to 12 pounds already and still just trucking along. we just had his first major round of immunizations yesterday, which wasn't much fun for anyone involved. but today he was doing a bit better and hopefully he can clear things up well enough on his own there. little immune system must be going nuts.

going to the dojo tonight for the second week in a row. it's a sad new record.

man, life is going nuts on me right now. got tons of end-of-year stuff going on at work, and plenty of get-ready-for-next-year things happening, too. i'm still not sure exactly how stuff is going to run next year, but it should in the least be an exciting ride. i'm not sure i want the excitement, but there you have it.

and then there's school, which is ramping up. three papers and a project due this week. going to have to stay home from the dojo tonight to finish up the project, i think. i'm kinda mad about that, but i also want the project to not be a slapped-together excuse. there's just not enough time in the world for everything.

speaking of time-sucking parasites, luc's growing like crazy. he's up to about 10 1/2 pounds now, putting on nearly a pound a week for the last while here. extrapolating from this point, he's going to be an amazing giant by the time he hits kindergarten. at least he's doing well, except for a small cold this week. and us? yeah, sleep is a distant memory.

but, really, life is good.

even though i was thinking about it earlier this morning, i swear i didn't queue up "last day of summer" on my music player on purpose.

first day back at the office yesterday was decent. even managed to get a little Actual Work done, which surprised me a little. what surprised me more was that the person i was doing the work for

back at home today, got some minor construction planned along with the various bits of chores and cleanup that need doing around here. at least the weather's cooled off, so maybe we can make it outside for a nice walk today.

it's been a long and busy week. we took lucien out a few times and overall things went very, very well. first we hit up the burlington mall after his doctor's appointment on wednesday, and he did fine right up until he told us it was time to leave. just a minor meltdown at the t-mobile store, which was kinda too bad because i wanted to check out a phone or two. oh well.

on thursday we had another doc visit, and we decided to make our way out to target while we were in town. again, he did just great. then on saturday, we drove up to nashua to hit up costco and babies r us. took a feeding break once we got to the latter store, but they have a "mom's room" thing so it all worked out fine.

then the big test came yesterday when we bundled the kid up and brought him into boston for church. we sat in the back pew to give us an easy escape route, but i'm very proud to say that apart from a couple squawks here and there he had no problem. it was also the debut of the baby sling, which he apparently really likes. i guess it's like a portable swaddler to him.

so that's my life at the moment - consumed with baby-ness. sure i've managed to get other stuff done in the past few weeks, but this has been the core of it. headed back into the office tomorrow, then one more day this week, and then slowly ramping up my time back to full time over the next few weeks. by the time we hit the fiscal year boundary i'll be back, i'm sure, though i'll likely be telecommuting at least one day a week for the next while. i love that my job is flexible enough to allow for that.

speaking of which, i love the fact that i still have a job in all of this craziness. we haven't been affected by the economy in quite the same way as everyone else, but we're still getting hit, and especially with a new administration in power things are likely to change in the future. but for the moment the lights are still on and they haven't locked me out, so we'll go with that.

i am tired. not super-exhausted like everyone warned me i'd be, but tired nonetheless. luc's doing very well and he's been growing strong. i wouldn't be surprised if he's broken six pounds already. we get to meet his pediatrician today, so here's to hoping for a clean bill of health and a good report overall.

depending on how things go, we might even try taking him out to, say, the mall with us for a bit today after the doc's. deb and i both need to get out of the house, and it'd be a good way to introduce the little guy to the world at large.

time flies so fast each day, and we can never seem to tell where it all goes.

one of the great things about the steam digitial game distribution service is the fact that you can interact with the storefront through a regular browser and not just the steam client. they were running a big sale over the weekend and had a pack i was planning to pick up at some point, but i didn't have much of a chance to while i was at home, and i haven't been home that much to begin with. however, i just logged on from the hospital bed here and put the order through. thankfully, according to them it's still the weekend and i was able to get the deal i was after. hooray.

now i'm going to go run myself through the shower and see what deb and lucien are up to. soon as the neonatologist comes along, we find out if we're all going home today or not. i really hope and pray that we are.

Current Mood: tired
luc's been doing really great the past couple days. feels like he totally turned a corner with regard to the eating thing. if he keeps this up, he could be home in as little as another few days, which would be totally awesome. and then the *real* sleep deprivation begins. but i look forward to it, it's still just so hard to leave him at the hospital every night.

just found out a bit ago that the wrecking's playing in boston this afternoon. i think i'm going to try and swing over there, seeing as we missed soulfest entirely this year. it's in the middle of the afternoon, and i was going to be headed to see luc at the hospital just after lunch, so that might work out just fine. and i think i need to get my head out for a bit anyway.

we finished putting up the wall-art in the nursery last night, and it came out pretty awesome. managed to get the pictures up onto facebook, since that's where all the cool kids are hanging out these days. eventually i'll get them up on our family gallery site, too.

we're packing up at the hospital right now, getting ready to leave Lucien for his first overnight without us down the hall. he's in great hands, both that of the staff here and those of God who has already been watching over this kid so much. but even with that knowledge, it's hard. we'll be back again tomorrow to stay in with him and feed him and just be with him, but for tonight we've got to head back to the house and get ourselves rested and strengthened. i just can't wait until he comes home now, which could be as early as this week or as late as a few weeks from now, all depending on how he does. here's to all our hopes and prayers with him.

that was a lot more excitement than i wanted this weekend.

on friday, deb was complaining of bad cramps, so we went into her doc's office only to have them say the weren't sure what was going on and they wanted an ultrasound done to be sure. so off to the hospital it was and a bunch of folks buzzed around for a bit, just for us to find out that she was in pre-term labor, at 33 wks. little bugger had decided it was time to come out and play. whee.

they put her on a couple of medications that sometimes help slow things down, and also gave her a steroid shot to help build up luc's lungs in case he did show up after all. but deb responded very well to the treatments and everything quieted down. they still kept us overnight in the hospital to keep an eye on her and make sure things stayed quiet. they did, and they eventually sent us home the next day. deb's on modified activity, which basically means she can putz about but not go too crazy.

side note? hospitals are very boring. thankfully, vinelander and aeralla came over to bring us some overnight stuff and keep us company in all the turmoil. very very much appreciated, that.

we got home saturday night, ordered in some dinner, and basically collapsed. threw a nice light movie on and that was that. on sunday, we got a few basic things doing, then vinelander and aeralla came over so that vinelander could help me reshuffle some furniture and get a couple other two-man jobs done. ordered in dinner again (this is getting expensive) and hung out for a while.

today i'm back in the office, feeling a little twitchy and worried but knowing that it's all in God's hands. even so, i'm not a big fan of such tumult.

deb and i are both up in the middle of the night. hooray for sleep-synch'd insomnia. ugh.

i'm tired, and i want to go back to sleep, but neither my body nor my mind will let me. not a fun place to be in. especially since it's only the middle of the week and i have work tomorrow.

and i can already hear the chorus of "oh just you wait until the baby is here! hur hur" from all of my friends who are already parents...

the expensive year keeps racking up. the windows, the car, the various home improvements, and the baby-related stuff; it just keeps coming, and the money just keeps going.

just had the utility sink down in the laundry room finally finished up. couldn't use the old pump the plumber had found for it, so we had to get a new pump along with the sink. uggh. but it's all in now, so everything should be up and working. it'll be a great help for cleaning up after our pig-of-a-cat.

also OK'd the carpet for the nursery. i think that once we get that in there then it'll really start to feel like it's coming together. going to wait until the carpet's installed before we pick up the doors. though i just now realized that i need to move the stand freezer out of there first. which means i need to shuffle a lot of the other bits of furniture around so that it'll fit where it needs to go. but first i have to shave a yak.

in other news, really liking the new car. it's definitely harder to find in the parking lot, and i doubt anything will compare to that old broken-in seat, but overall just about everything about it is an improvement. i believe i have made peace with my inner cheapskate and convinced myself that this was probably a good idea.

even so, life costs a lot right now. i thought we were in the middle of an economic crisis and the cost of living was supposed to be going down as a result? go figure.

went and picked up the new car last night. woo! when i got home, deb and i hit the road and went out to dinner together. seemed only appropriate to go a roadside barbecue place to break in the new vehicle. good little trip, great food, and the wife approves of the new ride.

when we got home, we set about putting the second coat of paint on the second color of the nursery walls. even bought a new brush to make the edges of the hills as crisp as i could get them. in the end i think it all turned out very very nicely. next up is the ceiling, then the trim and the decorative bits. also some carpet and new doors, but we'll get to all that eventually. going to be a completely new room, pretty much. the kid better appreciate it. well, honestly, even if he doesn't, i'm going to think it's totally awesome.

this has been an expensive year so far. almost certainly more so than any on record for me, and the kid's not even here yet. though admittedly, a lot of that is "if we don't do it now we won't after he shows up" kind of thought. make the investments now so that we don't have to later, right?

anyway, should get back to work here and get something useful done today.

man i'm tired. i woke up around 5 this morning and just couldn't get back to sleep, so i got up. got into the office stupendously early, which was nice and all, but now i'm dragging. feeling like i could be taking a nap right about now.

took some pictures of the caprice in the empty parking lot this morning. so sad to see it go, but at least we've got some record of its existence. really looking forward to picking up the new car this afternoon. plus i can tell luc that "Daddy sold his car to pay for you."

deb wants to go for a cruise tonight once i get the car. told her to pick a destination and we'll take it from there. though we do have some nursery painting to get cracking on tonight, which may take up a fair chunk of the evening.

i'm going to do my best to work and not fall asleep. no promises.
